Tainan Branch of National Museum of Prehistory have on display 4 permanent exhibitions, consists of “First Hall: 5000 years”, “Second Hall: Prehistoric Living at a Glance”, “Third Hall: The Science behind Archaeology”, “Fourth Hall: Children’s Hall” and one “Special Exhibition Hall”. Furthermore, the museum has their own archaeological room, an open display of treasury, visitors can peek through the glass windows and see how researchers categorize and work on the excavated artifacts.
The Children’s Hall is designed for a family-oriented experience, a place to let your imaginations run wild. It is suitable for all ages, and through imagination and creativity, learn about the cultures of prehistory; an exhibit designed with inspirations of the Austronesian Gods. Through theatre, hand crafts, interactive installations and games, visitors will be able to understand how our prehistoric ancestors think and how imaginations and creativity manifested in their way of life.
The exhibition hall is carefully themed with mythical God’s of Austronesia, “Annular Oceanic Theatre”: Visitors are encouraged to sit on the wooden raft, to experience first-hand on what it was like to go on a voyage to the unknown. “Mythical Tales”: utilizing projection mapping technology, hand drawn figures by the visitors are projected on the walls for an interactive experience. “The Legend of Fire”: a hands-on experience to think about how our ancestors came up with fire drilling wood and flintstones. “The spirits of the Sun and the Trees”: is a play area with slides, ball pool and climbing nets that is themed with prehistoric elements. “Forest Maze”: A team competition using only hearing as a method of exploration to find your prey. “Gaming Area”: This is a play area for kids of all ages, suitable for team events, education sessions and interactive activities. Moreover, the outdoor sand pit is perfect for any educational promotional activities, an experience of excavation suitable for the entire family.
When you are ready to take a breather from the exhibitions inside the museum, there’s plenty of public art displays around the park. Displays such as the Niao-Sung Family, gazebo inspired from the Tangbu and the fishing shack culture. These art displays ties in seamlessly to the archaeological aspect of the museum, allowing for a more creative and interactive space for visitors.
On the ground floor of the museum, there’s restaurants, food stalls, and souvenir shops. The service area is designed with archaeological site in mind, the furniture like dining tables, chairs are all made from paper, even the hot pots itself are made from paper.
